Giving Tuesday: How to help support non profits in Nebraska and Iowa
Nov. 29 is Giving Tuesday, a national day that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give to charity.
At its core, it allows people to collaborate and celebrate generosity. It's the season of giving and there are hundreds of organizations and non-profits in Nebraska and Iowa that need your help.
One organization is the Paralyzed Veterans of America Great Plains Chapter, which supports veterans with spinal cord injuries or diseases.
"If it wasn't for those guys and having that comradery, you don't know what your life would be like," John Scott, vice president of Paralyzed Veterans of America, said.
The organization is dedicated to improving quality of life by advocating for effective health care, promoting equal opportunities and enhancing lifetime health and fitness.
"There is nothing that they can't do. Any obstacle that they come across they find a way to move past it and get through and they will help the person next to them in a heartbeat," Amanda Vazquez, government relations director for Paralyzed Veterans of America, said.
Another organization is Accepted Food Bank, which has an anonymous back pack program providing kids in Elkhorn and Millard schools with easy-to-make meals they can eat during the weekend.
"The need is there and it's nice to be able to deliver it directly to the school where the families don't have to feel like they have to drive somewhere and get the help, but it's brought right here and sent home with their kids," Candice Milone with Accepted Food Bank said.
