Oregon Governor Kate Brown has ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff until sunset today, November 29.
The order comes in honor and remembrance of United States Representative Donald McEachin, Democrat from Virginia. The Governor’s order was issued in conjunction with a proclamation from President Biden.
I was saddened to learn of the death of Congressman Donald McEachin, an advocate for working families, environmental justice, and his constituents in Virginia," said Governor Brown. "Dan and I are keeping his wife, Colette, and his family in our thoughts and our hearts today."
Representative McEachin was re-elected to Congress earlier this month. A special election will have to be held to fill the seat.
In a statement posted on the representative's Twitter account, Tara Roundtree, Chief of Staff says “We are all devastated at the passing of our boss and friend, Congressman Donald McEachin. Valiantly, for years now, we have watched him fight and triumph over the secondary effects of his colorectal cancer from 2013. Tonight, he lost that battle, and the people of Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District lost a hero who always, always fought for them and put them first.”
