ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Tuesday, November 29th kicks off Giving Tuesday. According to the organization, the independent nonprofit and global movement was created in 2012. It encourages people to do good this holiday season and inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Organizations right here in the commonwealth are getting involved.
Chris Doyle, the executive director of Boys Home of Virginia says that this is a huge day for all non-profits. On Tuesday they have a match in place from the Jessie Ball duPont fund where they are offering a two-to-one match for every online donation received up to five hundred dollars as well as up to $25,000 in online match funding.
Doyle says that this is a powerful day for them at the Boy’s Home and they have been involved in Giving Tuesday in prior years, but this year is the biggest it has been for them.
“We’re excited but also a little nervous we want to make sure that people get out there and give so that we can take advantage of this match and like I said to do some incredible things for the boys here at Boys Home,” said Doyle.
It is not only the Boys Home that is involved in Giving Tuesday. Some other local organizations include Feeding Southwest Virginia, United Way of Roanoke Valley, Five Points Music Sanctuary, and the Lynchburg Humane Society.
If you can’t donate money this year many organizations say another good way to show your support is by donating your time.
