Palm Beach County mayor gives first State of the County address
Newly elected Palm Beach County Mayor Gregg Weiss gave his first State of the County address Tuesday morning.
“We have a lot to be proud of,” Weiss said.
Weiss discussed essential programs and accomplishments made over the last year, like the $200 million referendum for workforce and affordable housing, lowering the cost of rentals and homes.

“It’s been a focus, it’s going to continue to be a focus, and I believe with this infusion of $200 million that we are going to see the results this next year, the impact improving people's lives in Palm Beach County,” Weiss said.
“We’ve had inclusionary zoning. We were one of the first in the state to mandate that as new developments are built that they include opportunities for people of mixed incomes."
Weiss highlighted state and federal dollars used to help build over 10,000 units within the county.

Another focus was infrastructure and transportation, like broadband poles placed throughout underserved communities, providing wifi to students and families who need it. The county is calling it a “game changer."
Weiss says the county is also looking to improve mobility challenges. He touched on improving mobility challenges and progress, such as electric buses coming to Palm Tran. Public safety improvements were also a part of the address, including the Narcan Palm Beach Fire Rescue is now carrying.
