The New York Giants desperately need more wide receiver talent with a number of injuries plaguing the unit. They’ve already lost Sterling Shepard and Wan’Dale Robinson to season-ending ACL injuries, and with Kenny Golladay producing next to nothing despite his lofty price tag, Big Blue has been forced to change their offensive scheme.
Relying on the running game worked for the Giants for the first half of the 2022 season but has started to lose its shape with a weakened offensive line and Saquon Barkley taking a beating due to a heavy workload.
General manager Joe Schoen has done everything in his power to add more talent with essentially no money to spend. Free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is slated to meet with the Giants on Thursday and Friday, but depending on his contract desires, he might be out of their range.
The Giants currently have $2.6 million in available salary space, but they need that money to keep elevating practice squad players to the active roster. If OBJ is willing to sign a two-year deal and push the majority of his salary hit to next season, the Giants might be able to make it work.

However, they did bring in two receivers for a workout over the weekend. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Tennessee Titan, and Washington Commander Adam Humphries was the more prominent name of the bunch. 26-year-old receiver Malik Taylor also worked out, making 25 appearances over two seasons, hauling in seven receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Humphries, though, fits the Giants’ need in the slot at 5’11” and 185 pounds. The 29-year-old pass catcher has played in 96 career games, tallying 3,314 yards and 13 touchdown catches. He has a 70.3% career catch rate, but having bounced around between a few teams the past few years, it is clear his production as a Buccaneer seems to be in the past. He recorded 383 yards across 17 games and 41 receptions last season for Washington, so he can still offer the Giants some value in the slot. He spent 76.1% of his naps in the slot and 23.7% out wide last season, which is close to his career averages.
At this point, Big Blue simply needs talent, and Humphries has been productive in the past and could help the team immediately at a needy position.
