Meet Alex Cross‘ best friend and worst adversary.
Ryan Eggold (New Amsterdam) and Isaiah Mustafa (Shadowhunters) have joined the cast of Prime Video‘s Cross, our sister site Variety reports.
They’ll play opposite Aldis Hodge (City on a Hill) as Alex Cross, a character made popular in James Patterson’s novel series, as well as in movies like Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider and Alex Cross.
In Amazon’s Cross, the titular detective and forensic psychologist is uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers. He’s “brilliant, flawed, and full of contradictions,” according to the official synopsis. “A doting father and family man, Cross is single-minded to the point of obsession when he hunts killers. He is desperate for love, but his wife’s murder has left him too damaged to receive it.”
Eggold’s character, Ed Ramsey, is a charming political player with dark secrets. He starts off as a fan of Cross’ but quickly becomes “a formidable adversary.”
Mustafa will play John Sampson, Cross’ partner on the force and longtime best friend who also goes by the names “Two-John” and “Man-Mountain.” He worries that Cross has come to a “crisis point” and needs professional help.
Do you have thoughts about these Cross castings? Sound off in the comments!
I didn’t realize Aldis Hodge was attached. This should be good.
When will Cross be shown?
Yasssss! My two favorite men – Aldis & Ryan. Will definitely be watching. Can’t hardly wait!
Looking good so far.
Not Ryan Eggold already getting booked
Yes, please!!! This series is sounding better and better. I’ve never read any of the books or seen any of the movies, but Aldis Hodge in the lead and Ryan Eggold joining the cast….YES!!!
Making a hasty exit from New Amsterdam…I would be too given the past two seasons.
No, New Amsterdam is ending this season. He just secured his next gig.
I think OP just meant to point out how quick he’s moving on to another project (especially when they must still be shooting the series finale)
I’m aware of that. I was just saying he might want to put the shambles of NA behind him as quickly as possible….
You couldn’t leave well enough alone attacking the show. If you don’t like what you’re seeing, don’t watch. And leave those of us who still like the show in peace.
I would have cast Quinton Aaron as Sampson given Sampson’s height in the books. I’m not familiar with Eggold’s character but he is a great actor. Aldis Hodge was the perfect choice for Cross
Well if Ryan Eggold is in this, I will try it!
I will watch it if Ryan is in the cast. I met him on location when he was on the Blacklist. He plays a great bad guy. I wasn’t a big fan at first until we met and he kissed me on my cheek. Fan for life now. He is adorable.
Great casting! I’ve been a fan of Aldis Hodge since Friday night lights and of Ryan Eggold since black list.
I have read all alex cross books, love them all and am ready for more movies!
I haven’t read them all, but I’ve read quite a few, but didn’t Tyler Perry play Alex Cross in the movie “I, Alex Cross” or am I mistaken?🤔
Yes but this is a series and Tyler Perry is crimannly underrated as both an actor and director and if you want a real good movie of his he directed 3 little girls it’s fantastic
Tyler Perry’s “Alex Cross” was a godawful assassination of the character of Alex Cross and a flaming dumpster fire.

The best Alex Cross movies to date are “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider” though the books were released in the opposite order, starring Morgan Freeman as Cross, even though he was too old for the role even then as Cross is described in the books as looking like a young Ali, which could have been a great series for Will Smith like 10-15 years ago.
Yes!! So I am not the only on who d8d not like Tyler as Cross. Hower Freeman as Cross was the best so far…..thank you!
I have aal of the Alex Cross series books. Happy to hear that Aldis Hodge is playing Alex Cross (although in the books, Alex looks like a young Muhammad Ali so this is a bit of a stretch!) It’s a shame, though, that you can only watch this on Amazon Prime
Yeah, I always imagined like 10-15 years ago that Will Smith, since he played Ali and is a family man himself, could have been perfect for the role.
By that I mean Will Smith then, not Slap Happy Smith.
I think Ryan makes a much better bad guy than a good one. I remember him from Blacklist. Loved Aldis in City on a Hill. Can’t wait for this series.
It’s been a while since I’ve read any of the books (Last I read was Run, Alex, Run), but I can’t for the life of me remember who Ed Ramsey is. Unless he’s going to be an amalgamation of several police/FBI agents from the various books. But with Eggold, I can really only see him eventually being the Mastermind, unless his casting is meant as a red herring.
Ypu are right I can’t see Eggold being anything other than Mastermind.
Well adding Ryan Eggold was an magnificent he is an amazing actor and will add to this cast can’t wait to see it hope he has a large roll
Is Ryan Eggold in Canada working on Cross?
I think the casting is brilliant. These lead guys in particular will be able to play off each other well. I can’t wait to watch it.
