VINE GROVE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Kentucky’s first and only Narcan vending machine is being recognized on the national level for its high demand.

The vending machine, located outside the Vine Grove Police Department, dispenses Narcan which helps reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Since the machine’s implementation in October, it has dispensed more than 400 doses of the potentially lifesaving drug.

In an interview with FOX News on Monday, Vine Grove Police Chief Kenny Mattingly said during 2022, the county’s ambulance service has responded to 468 overdose calls.

“It’s everyone from the elderly grandparent whose kid, or grandkid has an addiction issue, up to the mechanical contractors that work as far as Louisville,” said Mattingly.

Chief Mattingly said it has been a challenge to keep the machine stocked due to such high demand.
