During a youth hunting event, a man unloaded his gun into the woods where children and several adults were standing on Saturday night, says Bledsoe County Sheriff Morris.
The Dayton Mountain Hound Association hosted a youth hunting event where some children were showing dogs and hunting in a competition for the first time.
"My children actually felt and heard the noise of the bullets going by them," says Jennifer Cox.
Cox is a mother of 3 who took her kids to Saturday's youth hunt.
She got this text from her 13-year-old daughter:
"Momma I'm scared, we're being shot at."
The Bledsoe County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the man who fired the shots was Alex Gibbs.
"They had approximately 8 minutes left in the hunt when Mr. Gibbs broke fire on them and I really hate it for those kids," says Ben Bell, President of the Dayton Mountain Hound Association.
Bell organized the hunt.
He says he has never experienced anything like this and that they were nowhere close to Gibb's property.
"These kids weren't on his property. Actually, two or three property lines away when all this happened," says Bell.
Sheriff Morris also confirmed that the children were never on Gibbs' property that night.
Alex Gibbs was detained by Bledsoe County Sheriff's Department. He was released a few hours later.
Sheriff Morris says this is a "very serious incident" and that he intends to take this dangerous case very seriously.
The investigation is still on-going.
Sheriff Morris says the case will appear before a grand jury in the coming weeks.
Cox says he needs to be held accountable.
"I do hope they come down hard. I hope there is no slack given," says Cox.
We tried to reach Gibbs several times Tuesday, but have not heard back.
