SCISWA Honors Students for Artwork on Calendar
Rick Hurt with the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency (SCISWA) said his organization puts out a calendar every year and they have done so for at least the last eight years. It is a calendar with a theme, which for 2023, was Composting. The calendar became a contest that drew around 550 entries from area third through fifth grade students in the SCISWA planning area, which covers Marion, Monroe, Lucas and Poweshiek counties.

Knoxville Bowlers Have One Final Home Meet Today
The Knoxville Bowling Squads will make one final appearance at Statesmen Lanes in Oskaloosa for a home meet against Creston today. The Panthers, while not seeing wins this year, are seeing progress. Coach Shaun Renard is pleased with the progress and hopes the mental aspect of the game also keeps getting better.

Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 65/69
A two-vehicle accident took place on Highway 65/69 in Indianola Wednesday afternoon that included a rollover and impeded traffic for a short time. The accident took place at approximately 2:30pm, with the two vehicles in the southbound lane, both vehicles ended in the west ditch with one flipped over. The Indianola Fire Department, Indianola Police Department, and Carlisle Police Department and possibly other agencies responded to the scene. More information will be released as it becomes available.

The Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad took care of business Tuesday night dispatching Centerville 73-50 while the girls were locked down all night in a 43-40 loss heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The boys had to win to set up a virtual winner-take all showdown for the South Central Conference title Friday night in Eddyville. While the Panthers started off slowly at first…they caught fire in the second quarter and pulled away with a 14-0 run in the second quarter, and gradually pulled away, getting the lead as high as 25. Think Spring Garden Seminar Coming in February
Indianola Parks and Rec is partnering with the Warren County Extension Office to host the annual Think Spring Garden Seminar for those interested in gardening and Master Gardeners. Kathy Kester with Indianola Parks and Rec tells KNIA News the seminar will have experts on hand to discuss gardening, featured speakers, and vendors on hand for shopping. Master Gardeners will also earn credits for attending. The event will be in the Kent Campus Center on the Simpson College campus on February 25th from 9am to 3pm. Knoxville Police Department Handles over 9,000 calls in 2022
Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller announced that his department handled over 9,000 calls in 2022, which was down compared to the year before. Fuller tells KNIA/KRLS News about comparing numbers from 2022, “So, last year we responded to 9,163 calls for service. That has decreased by about eight percent from 2021.That’s a good thing.”

Knoxville Bowlers Fall To Bondurant-Farrar
The Knoxville Bowling Squads fell to Bondurant-Farrar on Tuesday. The boys lost 2941-2593 with Troy Binns scoring a high game of 235 and Tirusten Carter scoring a high series with a 386. The girls also fell 2358-2019. Jasmine Holbrook had a high game of 175 and Charlye Willis had a high series of 305. The Panthers will play Oskaloosa on Thursday.

Tulip Time Less Than 100 Days Away
It’s now less than 100 days to Tulip Time in Pella, and work will continue to ramp up between now and May 4th as the celebration nears. As Pella Historical Society and the Tulip Time Steering Committee prepare to welcome 150,000 guests for the first weekend in May and when the tulips are in full bloom in April, a group of ambassadors of the community are rehearsing and getting special training ahead of their own journey.

Indianola Parks and Rec is hosting the next installment of their Afternoon Adventures Speaker Series one week from today, featuring the Underground Railroad movements in southwest Iowa, including details about activities in Madison and Warren County. Kathy Kester with Indianola Parks and Rec tells KNIA News Madison County Historical Society President Linda Griffith Smith and former Warren County Historical Society President Deb Taylor will host a program about the Underground Railroad movements, and the punishments for helping your fellow man that included prison, a $10,000 bounty, and your life.
