Globe Pool rehabilitation aiming for water in pool by year’s end

During the Globe City Council’s November 22 meeting, project manager James Neville told councilmembers that, after months of work, “the end is in sight” for the Community Center Pool rehabilitation.

Neville said the pool’s liner is now being installed and should be in place by December 16.  That will trigger the curing process, followed within five days by the filling of the pool. “We want to run the pool for four to five days” toward  the end of December, said Neville.

As for the pool pavilion building, the main concrete masonry unit walls are nearly finished. Painting, roofing and hanging of internal walls was expected to begin the week of November 28, and hopes are to start installing lighting by the week of December 12.

Neville said the project has been delayed due to limited resources in terms of a subcontractor, as well as skilled labor shortages. He added that a “shining light” of the delay has been the opportunity to see and implement options that were initially overlooked,  such as a decision to install synthetic turf.

“It’s come a long, long way; we’re not there, but we’re getting there,” said Councilman Mike Pastor. “I think the community will be pretty pleased when it gets to that point.”

Earlier in the meeting Jerry Jennex, on behalf of the now-disbanded Aquatic Center Committee, presented the City with a $7,323.17 check to be used for water activities. The money came from unused Aquatic Center donations, which were split between the City of Globe and the Town of Miami.
