Strong winds are expected throughout New Mexico today, some winds gusting as high as 70 miles per hour.
Strong winds are also expected in Albuquerque, but no wind warnings or advisories have been issued for the metro.
Here's what you need to know.
Watches and warnings
High wind warnings have been issued for most of western and central New Mexico. Areas of the northern Mountains, the central plains, and the southern mountains in New Mexico are under the high wind warning.
Las Vegas, Santa Rosa, Ruidoso, and parts of McKinley, Cibola, Catron, Grant, Sierra, Otero, Chaves, San Miguel, Guadalupe, Torrance, Taos, Torrance, and Mora counties are under the high wind warning.
Wind advisories are in effect for Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Grant and the eastern plains of New Mexico in Curry, Roosevelt, De Baca, Chaves, Colfax, Harding, San Miguel and Quay Counties.
Parts of western New Mexico are also included in the wind advisory in McKinley, Cibola, Socorro, and Catron counties.
The both the high wind warning and the wind advisory will expire at 6 p.m. tonight.
Impacts
In areas under a wind advisory, gusty winds can blow unsecure objects away. Winds can cause tree limbs to fall and cause blowing dust on roadways.
Sustained winds in the area of the wind advisory are expected range from 25 to 40 miles per hour with expected wind gusts reaching as high 55 miles per hour.
Those who are under a high wind warning could see greater impacts from the strong winds.
Strong, damaging winds could cause trees to blow over and could cause power outages in some areas. The National Weather Service says some widespread power outages are possible.
Strong winds will make travel difficult for high profile vehicles due to crosswinds. Blowing dust causing low visibility on roadways is also possible.
Timing
Winds are expected to begin increasing through the morning hours on Monday and last through the afternoon and early evening.
Most areas will start to see winds decrease near or after sunset today.
Wind advisories and high wind warnings are scheduled to last through 6 p.m. today.
