The snow is falling in the Twin Cities and it'll continue to come down well into Tuesday afternoon.

Forecasters say the storm that's affecting much of Minnesota could leave at least six inches of snow behind, maybe more.

"The snow is going to be steadier and heavier," said WCCO meteorologist Paul Douglas on The Morning News. "The heaviest burst, midday, right around the lunch hour, through mid-afternoon."

The snow is expected to taper off to flurries right around the time the afternoon commute comes to an end.

The southern metro will get hit harder, with places like Eagan, Burnsville, Lakeville, Bloomington possibly getting eight inches of snow.

"Wouldn't surprise me at all," said Paul.

MinDOT crews have been out since midnight, treating some roadways with snow-melting chemicals in preparation for daily traffic.

"In the Twin Cities metro area we have, like, 200 plows, with 400 drivers," said MinDOT's Anne Meyer. "Our districts around us have additional snowplows out there, the Mankato area, Rochester, Duluth, and St. Cloud, seeing some snow."

The narrow band of snow runs from Mankato through the Twin Cities metro and northward toward Lake Superior.
