Ukraine Boasts of Destroying 9,000 Russian Military Vehicles Since War Began

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in an update on its Facebook page that the country had taken almost 9,000 Russian military vehicles and that its own military was determined to increase this number "every day."

"As of November 29, 2022, Russia has lost more than 2,900 tanks and nearly 5,900 armed combat vehicles since late February. The Ukrainian military thinks that it's not enough and the number of losses of the enemy until he gets out of Ukraine, will increase every day," the Tuesday update said. "This 'works' our artillery, aviation, tanks, and the infantry has something to say! Together we will win!"

The update included photos from the war of Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield, including them manning tanks on rough terrain and fighting in the snow.

Newsweek was not able to independently verify the information shared by Ukraine and reached out to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment.

Russia does not regularly release updates on how many losses it has endured. Throughout the war, the figures that Russia has made public are often much lower than Ukrainian estimates.

On Monday, Ukraine admitted some difficulties the country has recently had as Russia attempts to seize territories in southeastern Ukraine. Still, it noted that Vladimir Putin's troops are facing significant losses in these attempts, including one Russian unit that has been attempting to control parts of the region.

"Russian invaders continue to die ingloriously in Ukraine," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine wrote in its update. "For example, one of the units of the Russian occupation forces in the Luhansk oblast lost up to 70% of its personnel last week."

The troops were stationed near the village of Babyne, located about 86 miles northeast of Kherson. As many as five units of military equipment were destroyed by Ukrainian soldiers, according to the update.

Newsweek was not able to independently verify this information.

Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during an address to the nation that he is still eager to engage in peace talks with Putin. He reiterated the five key conditions in the peace talks necessary for ending the conflict:

"Once again, restoration of our territorial integrity, respect for the U.N. Charter, compensation for all damages caused by the war, punishment of every war criminal and guarantees that this will not happen again."

He also said that countries should be focused on ending the Russia-Ukraine war in order to return focus to other global issues like the food crisis and the climate crisis.
