CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – On Monday at approximately 11:28 am, police responded to the 2500 block of Holiday Rd. for a report of an armed robbery. According to police, two victims were approached as they exited their apartment and were ordered back inside at gunpoint where their cell phones were stolen before the suspect fled the area on foot. An officer arriving on scene saw the suspect running northeast. After a short foot chase, 21-year-old Jovon Ellis was arrested. The stolen cell phones and a CO2 pistol were recovered nearby. Ellis has been charged with Robbery in the First Degree.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – An Iowa man will go to federal prison after a jury found him guilty of sexual abuse back in June 2022. Evidence at the trial showed that 67-year-old Robin Roberts from the Meskwaki Settlement performed a sex act on the victim while she was asleep. She never consented to the sex and was not capable of consent when it happened. Roberts was sentenced to 188 months imprisonment and ordered to pay a $5,000 special assessment pursuant to the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act. He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. (KCRG) – The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office has now released the name of the two people killed in a crash this weekend on the U.S. Highway 18 over the Mississippi River. That’s the bridge that connects Marquette to Prairie du Chien, between Clayton County, Iowa and Crawford County, Wisconsin. The Sheriff’s Office says two vehicles collided head on in the area of the Township of Bridgeport around 11:20 a.m. on Sunday. They say 43-year-old Tracy Larson of Prairie du Chien was driving a 2002 Cadillac Escalade toward the east, and 36-year-old Luke Hackman of Decorah was driving a 2007 Chevrolet 2500HD toward the west, when it happened. The Sheriff’s Office did not indicate who crossed over the center line. Both drivers died from their injuries. The Sheriff’s Office says there were also an adult woman and two young children inside the Chevrolet who suffered non-life threatening injuries. It took crews about 4 and a half hours to investigate the crash and clean it up. Authorities are still investigating.

PEOSTA, Iowa (KCRG) – People on Saturday in the Peosta area had a surprise when they suddenly felt not just one, but two explosions. The Peosta Police Department says they started to get numerous phone calls reporting the explosions around 5:21 p.m. Officers quickly started to investigate and found someone was recreationally using tannerite in the county south of the city. Tannerite is a Brand of Bianary Exploding Targets used in firearms practice, according to the company that makes it. They say it is stable when subjected to a less severe form of force, like if it were dropped or someone hit a target with a hammer. When hit with a bullet, they produce a large explosion and a cloud of water vapor. The company says it can be useful for someone practicing with a long-range rifle. The Peosta Police Department says there is no danger to the public in this situation.
