Couldn’t find a TalkRADIO thread to post this in so I thought I’d do it’s own thread. James Whale has announced that he has terminal cancer that has spread to his brain, spine, kidney and lungs and that he only has months to live 😭😭😭😭.

He's mentioned it on-air numerous times that he has terminal cancer.

Using multiple emojis for such news isn't really appropriate.

    Thanks.

Pointess thread not appropriate at all.with a witheringly badly worded title.

He’s been very excellent talk radio shock jock for many years and wouldn’t take any prisoners. Brilliant on LBC drive time.

Losing his wife few years ago too.

    Very very sad news..

He did a show for Radio Aire/Yorkshire Television (can’t remember if it was produced by Yorkshire for ITV or produced by Yorkshire for Channel 4 though) too

Fine to leave as is. I wasn't aware he'd reached this stage, so the thread has informed me and probably others. Emoji use - no issue there either from what I can see. We don't need another thread to be taken over by the unofficial moderators. Anybody not liking it will be free to scroll onwards.

Back on topic, it is sad news about a James. He's fought a long and brave battle over many years. His contribution to talk radio (the medium itself together with both incarnations of the the radio station) are huge.

I agree, no need for the thread to be closed. As someone who has worked in radio for years and with this sad news, I personally think it deserves it's own place to discussion. I wouldn't have looked in a TalkRadio thread so I didn't know he was this ill. Very sad news indeed.

Thought his face looked very bloated on saturday night. He's lasted a lot longer than I expected when he first announced his diagnosis.

It was a Yorkshire TV production that was more or less networked in all ITV regions.

Radio Aire and YTV were (still are I think) next door to each other too.

When he was networked across Red Rose and Aire, he was cult listening amongst me and some of my school friends. I went to watch him break the world kissing record at the Telethon at Yorkshire TV in 1988 ish.

Maybe the title could have been a little tasteful.

Haven't heard him in many a year, but when I was a student at Newcastle Uni in the late 1970's he was a voice up there on Metro Radio. Sorry to hear this news.

Both James Whale and Allan Beswick, who still does a Sat/Sun show on Radio Manchester. Can’t remember which order they were on Red Rose, but I blame them for me underachieving at school as I used to be up till 2am in the 80’s listening to them.
Next day late and knackered for school. Don’t regret it though.

I’ve not listened to Talkradio as much since it started Talk TV. If James Whale is still on it’s not.every week night like he used to be.
Someone called Andre Walker has been doing shows with Ash a lot of the time.

James Whale was an early pioneer of commercial radio Phone In Talk Shows very early on in the original era of ILR.

Similarly Tony Butler pioneered British Sports Talk Radio Phone In’s very early on on ILR at BRMB Birmingham.

He was off last weekend, but still presents on TalkRadio (and TV) on Thursday and Friday nights from 11pm from home and Saturday nights from the studio. (First hour Thurs/Fri on TalkRadio only).
