Is the band getting ready to break up?
The Las Vegas Journal-Review reports Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen could be on the short list of head coach candidates at UNLV.
The Rebels’ coaching search began Monday when the school fired Marcus Arroyo following a 5-7 season. Arroyo went 7-23 in three seasons as UNLV head coach.
Steichen is a friend of the program, having played quarterback for UNLV. He also was a student assistant and offensive graduate assistant for the Rebels.
However it’s possible that Steichen is too green for UNLV. Athletic director Erick Harper said he is looking for a candidate with previous head coaching experience.

Last week, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the Eagles could be in position to lose Steichen: “The Eagles’ offense has only improved under coordinator Shane Steichen’s watch.”
Two weeks ago, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero also said Steichen is a head coach candidate to watch: “Steichen has overseen the Eagles’ offensive rise since taking over play-calling duties during the 2021 season and has a good reputation going back to his days with the Chargers.”
Steichen has worked wonders with quarterback Jalen Hurts, who’s emerged as an MVP candidate as the Eagles sit atop the NFL with a league-best 10-1 record following Sunday’s 40-33 win over the Green Bay Packers at Lincoln Financial Field.
