Nebraska food bank donations are matched on Giving Tuesday as demand spikes
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Too many people are waking up hungry across our community as the price of food and just about everything else is much higher than last year.
Families that used to have no problem affording groceries are now struggling to get by.
There’s a way all of us can help make sure our neighbors have enough to eat this Giving Tuesday.
Donations received by the Food Bank of Lincoln by midnight will be matched up to $25,000 by Pinnacle Bank and other supporters.
Food Bank for the Heartland has a similar deal in place for areas of our state outside of Lincoln. WoodmenLife is pledging to match $15,000.
Officials with Food Bank for the Heartland say there has been a 40% increase in the number of households served by its partners these last few months.
Nearly 34 million people across our country do not have reliable access to enough food for every person in their home, according to the Feeding America nationwide network.
That troubling number includes more than nine million children.
