GUYS, BACK TO YOU. ALL RIGHT, BILL, THANKS. BIG RED FANS WERE EXCITED TO WELCOME THE NEW HUSKER HEAD COACH TO LINCOLN TODAY. LINING MEMORIAL DRIVE KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN TWO ABBIE PETERSEN SPOKE WITH PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT THEY HOPE TO SEE FROM RHULE THIS SEASON. HUSKER FANS HERE IN LINCOLN ARE PUMPED UP, BUT SOME TELL ME THEY’RE CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMIST. STICK BUT IF THERE’S ONE THING ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO I SPOKE WITH HAVE IN COMMON IS THAT THEY WANT TO SEE THIS NEW HIRE WORK OUT. THE BIG RED FANS CHEER AND THE BAND PLAYED. AS A NEW HEAD COACH FOR THE NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS, I WAS WELCOMED HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME. MATT RHULE WILL BE LEADING THE TEAM AND SO MANY PEOPLE HOPE THIS WILL FINALLY BE THE PROGRAM’S BIG BREAK. JUST EXCITED FOR THE CHANCE TO START A NEW ERA. SARAH MARLOW AND DAVE ASHBY WERE AMONG THE FANS OUTSIDE OF MEMORIAL STADIUM MONDAY. ASHBY SAYS HE’S A SEASON TICKET HOLDER, BUT HE’S BOYCOTTED GAMES FOR TWO YEARS NOW. HE WILL GIVE RHULE A CHANCE TO HUSKER DIEHARD, WHO JUST HOPE THAT THEY GET THIS COACHING KICK RIGHT IN ACTUALLY HAVING WHAT? IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I WALKED OUT OF THE MEMORIAL STADIUM IN HAPPY SITTING WITH THEIR FREE MATT RHULE T-SHIRTS, THE PAIR HOPES TO HAVE SOME JOY WHEN THEY WALK OUT OF THE SEA OF RED NEXT. AND THAT’S ALSO HOW STUDENTS ARE FEELING. I’M KIND OF EXCITED TO BE HONEST, ESPECIALLY ABOUT LIKE HOW THE LAST COACH DIDN’T GO SO WELL. AND I’M LIKE IN HIS SPEECH, IT SEEMED LIKE HE ACTUALLY CARED. Big Red fans were excited to welcome the new Husker head coach to Lincoln Monday as they were lining Memorial Drive.The Big Red fans cheered and the band played as a new head coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers was welcomed home for the first time.Matt Rhule will be leading the team and so many hope this will finally be the program's big break. "I'm excited for the chance to start a new era," said Sarah Marlowe. Sarah Marlowe and Dave Ashby were among the fans outside Memorial Stadium Monday.Ashby says he's a season ticket holder but he boycotted the games for two years.Now, he will give Rhule a chance. "As a diehard Husker fan, I just hope that they get this coaching pick right. It's been a long time since I walked out of the Memorial Stadium happy," said Ashby. Sitting with their free "Matt Rhule" t-shirts, the pair hopes to have some joy when they walk out of the "Sea of Red" next.That's also how students are feeling. "I'm kind of excited, to be honest, especially that like how the last coach didn't go so well and in his speech, it seemed like he actually cared," said Sam Romshek. But overall, Big Red fans tell me they want the program to do this with Rhule's help."At least compete against teams that we should be competing against," said Romshek.
