West Palm Beach doctor victimized by check washing

West Palm Beach doctor victimized by check washing
FULLY. ALL RIGHT, CHRIS, THANK YOU. NEW TONIGHT, A LOCAL DOCTOR HAS A WARNING, BUT IT’S NOT ABOUT ANYTHING MEDICAL. INSTEAD, HE WANTS EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT A SCAM CALLED CHECK WASHING SOMETHING HE SAYS HE WAS JUST A VICTIM OF. ARI HAIT HAS MORE FROM WEST PALM BEACH. THIS PANEL OF MAILBOXES IS LOCATED IN A STRIP MALL PARKING LOT IN WEST PALM BEACH. BUT A LOCAL DOCTOR TELLS ME THAT IS ALSO THE SCENE OF A CRIME. AND HE SAYS HE WAS THE VICTIM EVEN THOUGH HE WASN’T EVEN HERE WHEN IT HAPPENED. TAKE A LOOK AT THESE TWO CHECKS. THEY ARE BOTH FROM THE ACCOUNTS OF WEST PALM BEACH. DR. OLAYEMI OKYEAME, AND HE SIGNED BOTH OF THEM. BUT THE NAMES AND THE AMOUNTS ARE NOT FROM HIM. YOU DIDN’T. OKAY. I WANT TO CLEAR HOW IT IS. I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE $100, BUT TURNS OUT TO BE. THEY CHANGED IT IN $500. THE OTHER CHECK WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR ABOUT $600. IT WAS CHANGED TO NEARLY 9000. DR. OCEAN IS A VICTIM OF WHAT’S CALLED CHECK CASHING. TWICE LAST WEEK, HE MAILED CHECKS AND TWICE SOMEONE STOLE THE CHECKS, REMOVED THE NAMES IN AMOUNTS, AND PUT THEIR OWN INFO IN. I MEAN, IT BLEW MY MIND. I THINK I WAS IN A PHANTOM. I OR SOMEONE WOULD DO THIS. DR. OCEANIC BELIEVES SOMEONE STOLE THE CHECKS FROM THE PANEL MAILBOX OUTSIDE HIS OFFICE. IT’S SOMETHING THE POSTAL INSPECTOR HAS BEEN WARNING CUSTOMERS ABOUT FOR THE LAST YEAR. THERE HAVE BEEN A SERIES OF VIOLENT ROBBERIES, OF MAIL CARRIERS. WHAT THEY’RE AFTER IS THE KEY TO THE PANELED BOXES. IN THIS INTERVIEW FROM OVER THE SUMMER, THE POSTAL INSPECTOR TOLD ME THAT’S BECAUSE ONE KEY CAN BE USED TO OPEN MULTIPLE PANEL BOXES. SO JUST BECAUSE THEY STOLE ONE PARTICULAR ZIP CODE KEY FOR ONE PARTICULAR APARTMENT COMPLEX, THERE’S NO TELLING. IF THEY FIND ANOTHER APARTMENT COMPLEX AND THEY GET LUCKY. SO HOW DO YOU PROTECT YOURSELF? ONE OPTION IS TO BRING YOUR CHECKS DIRECTLY TO THE POST OFFICE. DR. OCEANA HAS ANOTHER THOUGHT. ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP WRITING CHECKS? ABSOLUTELY NOT. NO MORE CHECK WRITING. EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE DONE REMOTELY. FORTUNATELY, DR. OCEAN, HE CHECKS HIS ACCOUNTS ALMOST DAILY. SO HE WAS ABLE TO IDENTIFY THIS FRAUD AND STOP PAYMENT ON THE CHECKS. HE DIDN’T LOSE ANY MONEY. AND EXPERTS SAY THAT KIND OF ATTENTION TO YOUR ACCOUNTS, THAT MIGHT BE THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT YOURSELF FROM BEING RIPP
