The head of a charity in Suffolk County says they were targeted in several thefts.

Keith Caputo, founder of the nonprofit, Helping Makes You Happy, says a group in a white van stole items from their donation closet over the summer. A board member who saw and followed them says she witnessed the group go on to target St. John's Church and a nearby Presbyterian Church.

Helping Makes You Happy installed a lock on its donation closet, which prevented the group from stealing on one occasion. However, the door became too damaged for the lock to fit afterwards.

The organization says it had to put a smaller opening on the donation bin because people have been attempting to crawl inside and even lower small children in some instances.

The nonprofit says it has reported all the thefts to the local police, who are working on finding the suspects.
