CINCINNATI (WKRC) - An investigation is underway after a local school received a warning about an active shooter on campus that turned out to be fake.
According to a press release, the Hamilton County Communications Center received the call around 2 p.m., saying there was a shooter hiding in the bathroom of Winton Woods High School.
The call was made on an unregistered cell phone, and the ID showed it appeared to be coming from Greenhills, Ohio.
Because Winton Woods has two high school campuses, one in Greenhills and one in Forest Park, both were placed on lockdown.
Authorities thoroughly searched both locations and determined there was never any threat. The lockdowns were lifted and dismissals proceeded normally.
Police say school teachers and administrators, as well as officers, still followed active shooter safety protocol.
Forest Park Police investigators are working to determine the identity of the caller and arrest them on criminal charges.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Forest Park Police Department at (513) 595-5220.
