DO. FINDING DAYCARE IS ALREADY A CHALLENGE FOR MANY FAMILIES AND HERE IN MARSHALLTOWN IT JUST GOT A LOT MORE COMPLICATED FOR SOME PARENTS. THEY FOUND OUT OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO FIND A NEW PLACE FOR THEIR KIDS. TWO YEAR OLD EVERLY RACES UP A HILL OUTSIDE LITTLE SCHOLARS LEARNING CENTER UNAWARE WHY SHE DIDN’T GO TO DAYCARE LIKE SHE WOULD HAVE ANY OTHER MONDAY. OVER THE THANKSGIVING WEEKEND, PARENTS GOT THIS NOTE TELLING THEM THE BUSINESS WAS CLOSED WHILE THE OWNER GETS HELP WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. NIKKI ADAIR HAS A SON WHO WENT TO LITTLE SCHOLARS. I WAS IN SHOCK. I COULDN’T I COULDN’T BELIEVE IT. AND I’M LIKE, OH, MY GOSH, ALL THESE FAMILY IS ALL THESE STAFF MEMBERS. THIS IS HORRIBLE. THE PRACTICAL PART IS FINDING SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO ON SUCH SHORT NOTICE. RYAN, GARY TELLS US SHE TURNED TO SOCIAL MEDIA AND FRIENDS WITH CONNECTIONS. THERE IS NO DAYCARE HERE. THERE WAS ONE SPOT WE GOT LUCKY WHEN WE BROUGHT HER HERE AND THERE’S THIS IS NOT THERE. NOT IT’S NOT HERE. IT’S FULL. WE HAVE ONE DAYCARE THAT’S LIKE A TWO YEAR WAIT LIST. SHE SAYS FORTUNATELY SHE FOUND SOMEONE TO WATCH HER GRANDDAUGHTER AT HOME. BUT THE SUDDEN CLOSURE IS ALSO TOUGH FOR STAFF AT LITTLE SCHOLARS. WE FOUND OUT THE SAME DAY THE PARENTS DID. SHELTON COLEMAN WAS A LEAD TEACHER FOR THE FOUR YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL RULE. IT REALLY HURTS. A LOT OF US, THERE’S 29 STAFF AND THERE IS 60 PLUS FAMILIES WHO HAVE BEEN WITH US FOR YEARS WHO ARE OUT OF CHILDCAR NOW. AND AS THAT OF, YOU KNOW, A JOB. WHILE SHE NOW HAS TO LOOK FOR WORK TO PROVIDE FOR HER OWN KIDS, SHE THINKS ABOUT THOSE AT THE DAYCARE. SHE WILL MISS SO INCREDIBLY MUCH. AND I KNOW WE ALL WILL. WE ALL HAD REALLY GREAT CONNECTIONS WITH THE FAMILIES. SO I KNOW IT’S GOING TO BE REALLY HARD. WHILE THE CLOSURE WAS SUDDEN, MANY ALSO SHARED THEIR LOVE FOR THE OWNER AND BEST WISHES FOR HER HEALTH.
