MERCED, Calif. (FOX26) — A man now finds himself behind bars following a road rage incident in Merced.

According to Merced Police, officers were called Sunday around 3:38 p.m. to Yosemite Avenue and M Street. When officers arrived, they learned a shooting had taken place which originated from a road rage incident.
Investigators say the suspect, identified as Daniel Ray Shelton, 21 of Merced, fired multiple shots at someone’s vehicle and struck it twice. That’s when officers say someone called 911 and reported the incident to the police. His vehicle was found at a home in north Merced.

The Merced Police Department says officers found a firearm and shell casings inside Shelton’s vehicle. He was later arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail where he faces the following charges: Discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
