Madison Heights police are looking for the driver of a Jeep Gladiator who they say deliberately ran over a man who died of his injuries a short time later.

Madison Heights Police Chief Corey Haines said officers were able to talk to the victim, 50, before he died from his injuries at an undisclosed hospital.

“He did talk to us but we’re not releasing any further information about that for now,” Haines said.

There apparently was some sort of altercation between someone in the Jeep and the man about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the lot outside of the T-Mobile store near 14 Mile Road and Interstate 75, police said.

In a release Monday, Madison Heights Detective Lt. Kevin Barret said the Jeep Gladiator was black with tinted windows

Before he was struck, the man is believed to have been inside a silver Saturn Ion, but got out of the vehicle.

Barrett said the Jeep driver fled the parking lot before officers arrived there.

Haines said Monday police were not releasing the name of the man who was run over because police are still investigating the fatal assault with a motor vehicle.

“There is some question of whether he was homeless,” Haines said. “His driver’s license indicates he had a Port Huron address but we aren’t certain that’s where he has been living recently.”

Anyone with information on the fatal incident or can help police identify a suspect, is asked to  contact Madison Height Detective Sgt. Hartunian at 248-837-2737 or the Madison Heights Police Department at 248-585-2100.
