As the Thanksgiving holiday comes to a close, the Harrisburg International Airport is slowing down after a busy few days.
Spokesperson for the Harrisburg International Airport, Scott Miller said holiday travel went smoothly this year, with only one cancelled flight and just a few delays over the past week.
He said travel was up five percent this Thanksgiving compared to last with over 23,500 passengers coming in and out of the Harrisburg International Airport over the Thanksgiving week. Miller said airport personnel expected those numbers.
After many trips were cancelled in 2020 and 2021, Miller said the holiday season isn’t yet over as many are excited to be traveling once again.
“People are just taking the opportunity to go. They’ve saved money, they’re spending it, and they’re enjoying the privilege of travel,” Miller said. “So that’s what we expect: a couple lighter weeks here, and then it will pick up for Christmas and New Years, then your back into the January all-business, and the snow bird travel picks up late in January as you head to Florida.”
If you plan to travel for Christmas and haven’t yet purchase flight tickets, Miller said prepare to be flexible. He said you may need to fly a day early or later as seats fill up and prices creep up closer to Christmas Day.
