One man is dead after a shooting near the 8100 block of View Ridge Dr. in east Austin, according to Austin Police Department. Officers were alerted to the area after a call came in at around 1:39 a.m. reporting a shooting.
When police arrived on scene, they found 25-year-old Timothy Mota with a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were performed, but Mota was pronounced deceased around 2 a.m., according to APD’s Watch Commander.
Preliminary investigation shows there was a confrontation between Mota and a second man which resulted in a shooting.
Police believe it to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public. APD confirms that a person of interest was identified and no charges have been filed.
One person that lives nearby says gunshots are a regular occurrence in the neighborhood.
“Every now and then you can probably hear gunshots, almost really every day,” said Jaime, a neighbor.
Jaime has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and is worried the deceased person may be one neighbor he knows.
“He’s usually out here every morning talking to neighbors or saying what’s up," Jaime said.
“Never know what you’re going to get into out here because people out here in this neighborhood are crazy," Jaime said.
Last year, Austin police investigated a homicide less than half a mile away from Monday's shooting, at 7200 block of E. Meadow Bend Dr. Police followed a blood train and about a block away on View Ridge Drive, found 53-year-old Frank Williams with multiple gunshot wounds. Williams has been charged with first-degree murder related to that case.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 63rd homicide of 2022.
