UPDATE: Third defendant in April 1 Norway Township assault sentenced
Katherine Puma pled no contest to the charge of misdemeanor aggravated assault in Dickinson County District Court in November, and was sentenced Thursday
IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: Katherine Puma appeared in Dickinson County District Court for sentencing Thursday. Judge Julie LaCost found Puma guilty of the single misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault.
Puma was sentenced to one-year probation with no early discharge. Included in her sentence was $1,165 in court fines, plus a total of $3,113 in restitutions that will be paid along with other co-defendants.
Puma also received 40 days in jail. She has been credited for 10 days already. Another 10 days are suspended if community service is served, and another 20 are held in abeyance upon completion of probation.
“I don’t know if any of these events would have taken place had it been just for one person, and not a group of seven or more. Clearly, group hysteria played a role in this,” LaCost said.
Puma is accused of being the defendant who drove the victim, Trentin McWilliams, from his home to where he was assaulted in Norway Township.

A third defendant in the assault that took place in Norway Township on April 1 has pled no contest.

She is the third defendant to enter a no-contest plea, after Regan Passamani and John Zanon. A sentencing date has been set for Jan. 12. Updates about Puma’s sentencing will be posted here.
