Rocky Mountain Power Foundation donates to Boys and Girls Club
SWEETWATER COUNTY, WYOMING — Rocky Mountain Power Foundation recently contributed $2,624 to the Boys & Girls Club of Sweetwater County through their 2022 Community Giving Campaign. This campaign includes local Rocky Mountain Power Employees and Retirees who chose to give back and help fund worthwhile organizations in the communities where they live and work. The Boys & Girls Club is very thankful for the generous donation and to all who chose to give and support club members and their families.

David S. Petrie, 85, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center in Green River, Wyoming. Mr. Petrie died following a lengthy illness. Cremation will take place; A Private Family Memorial Service will take place.

Postponed State Spirit Competition moved to March 8
January 30, 2023 — The Wyoming High School Activities Association has announced that the State Spirit Competition has been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 8, in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center. The event was supposed to have taken place last Friday, January 27, but was postponed due to weather and road conditions.

Escapee Anthony Ortega from Casper arrested in Rock Springs
ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING — The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office was seeking the public’s assistance in locating Anthony Ray Ortega, who is currently wanted for Felony Escape from Official Detention. According to the press release, Ortega was participating in the work-release program at the Casper Re-Entry Center (CRC). He failed to return on January 24 at 1 p.m. and was reported as an escapee by CRC staff to the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office at 5 p.m. Ortega was originally convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Wolves led Ron Thon after Day 1/Other Friday area sports
January 28, 2023 — The Green River Wolves stand on top of the team leaderboard after the first day of the Ron Thon Memorial wrestling tournament in Riverton. The Wolves tallied 130.5 points on the opening day to hold a slim lead over Sheridan (121). Rock Springs is currently in tenth place with 64 points. Lyman sits in 22nd place with 28 points, and Mountain View scored 12 team points and stood in 33rd.

Wolves finish second at boys Ron Thon
January 29, 2023 — After leading in team scores after the first day of competition, the Green River boys ended up in second place at the 37-team Ron Thon Memorial Tournament in Riverton. Sheridan, behind the strength of four individual championships, won the boy’s competition with 212 points. The Wolves, with one individual champion Thomas Dalton, tallied 210.5. Rock Springs had one individual champion, Brock Fletcher, and finished 12th with 94 points. Lyman placed 21st with 33 points and Mountain View 33rd with 12 points.

RSPD needs help with Saturday night’s “shots fired” call
January 29, 2023 — Press Release for the Rock Springs Police Department. On January 28, 2023, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Rock Springs Police Department was dispatched to a Shots Fired call at 131 K St., The Wyoming Club. The gunshot round entered the front window of the business and lodged into the wall behind the bar. There were no injuries during this incident.
