12 Kentucky counties to undergo election audits

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – We now know which Kentucky counties will be going under audits for a closer look at their election processes.

State law requires a select number of counties to undergo an audit after each general election – that number was expanded to 12 this year by the Kentucky General Assembly.

On Monday morning, Attorney General Daniel Cameron randomly selected the following counties:

  1. Anderson
  2. Breathitt
  3. Christian
  4. Daviess
  5. Jefferson
  6. LaRue
  7. Laurel
  8. Oldham
  9. Owen
  10. Rowan
  11. Shelby
  12. Webster

Cameron said the audit investigations done by the Attorney General’s Department of Criminal Investigations will generally be looking for cases of electioneering or bribery.

“These audits are incredibly important. I know Secretary Adams and others, whether it be regarding with respect to the task force or our office, take seriously the importance of making sure that our elections are secure and that folks have confidence in their vote,” said Cameron.

Cameron’s office said the process generally takes about two weeks to a month. The last general election audit only found three cases of fraud that were later prosecuted in court.
