The Maryland men’s basketball team remains in the Associated Press top-25 poll after breaking through last week, checking in at No. 22 this time around.

The Terps defeated Coppin State, 95-79, on Nov. 25 in Juan Dixon’s first game as a head coach in College Park. Dixon, the all-time leading scorer in Maryland history, is in his sixth season as the head man at Coppin.

It was the first time the Terps and Eagles had played since 1989, when Coppin beat Maryland, 70-63, at Cole Field House in Gary Williams’ first year as head coach. This time, the Eagles hung around for much of the game thanks to the efforts of Penn State transfer guard Sam Sessoms (28 points), but ultimately the Terps had too much firepower.

Maryland sophomore big man Julian Reese (24 points), senior wing Hakim Hart (22) and Jahmir Young (21) had big days. It marked the first time three Terps each scored 20 or more points since the final game at Cole Field House in 2002, when Dixon, Lonny Baxter and Chris Wilcox did it.

Maryland sits at 6-0 entering a stretch of high-major opponents: Louisville (Nov. 29), Illinois (Dec. 2), Wisconsin (Dec. 6), Tennessee (Dec. 11) and UCLA (Dec. 14). Danny Manning, the Terps’ interim coach last season, is on Louisville’s coaching staff.
