There is a bit of turmoil beginning to creep up with the Dallas Mavericks this NBA season, who are currently riding a four-game losing streak. A big topic of discussion during this stretch has been the playing time of Chrisitan Wood, who has seen inconsistent minutes during the second half of games, sometimes being benched for nearly the entire fourth quarter.
Without Wood, who is likely their second-best player, consistently being in the lineup, it puts a ton of pressure on superstar point guard Luka Doncic to carry the load. He was excellent during the stretch to begin the season, he scored at least 30 points in nine straight games to begin the season, but he is already showing wear and tear from that.
Looking to upgrade the supporting cast around Doncic and add another shot creator to the mix, the Mavericks are intending to sign Kemba Walker. To make the move, Dallas will be waiving Facundo Campazzo, who was on a non-guaranteed.
Walker is someone that the Mavericks have previously shown interest in signing. When he was a free agent in 2019, he was offered a max contract by Dallas. But, Walker spurned them, signing an identical offer with the Boston Celtics.

It ended up being a blessing in disguise for the Mavericks as Walker was an All-Star his first season in Boston but battled a chronic knee injury. It eventually led to him being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a salary dump along with a first-round pick. He was waived by the Thunder and signed with the New York Knicks, where his season effectively ended at the All-Star break when he was told he wouldn’t be playing anymore and was sent home.
Despite not being on a team since then, Walker has been working hard in Florida, prepping for a return to the NBA. he was traded by the Knicks to the Detroit Pistons during the offseason to help clear salary cap space for Jalen Brunson to be signed in free agency.

Scoring without Doncic in the lineup has been a struggle for the Mavericks this season. While he may not be the All-Star level contributor he once was, Walker showed with the Knicks that he still has a little something left in the tank as a scorer, something Dallas certainly needs more of around Doncic.
