NFA's new gymnastics coach is also a new science teacher in Norwich. Meet Tandi Carignan.

Tandi Carignan has been named the new gymnastics coach at Norwich Free Academy.

Carignan replaces Cynthia Briggs. Briggs, who has relocated out of the area, guided the Wildcats to a spot in the Class LL state championship meet last season.

“Tandi is ready to lead our program,” NFA Athletic Director Roy Wentworth said in a press statement. “I’m looking forward to her work with our student-athletes. She has the energy, the experience and the philosophy neededto succeed.”

Carignan, who trained and competed nationally through USAG level 8, has more than 20 years ofcoaching experience with Thames Valley Academy of Gymnastics, Kids Rule and Frog BridgeGymnastics.

Carignan taught at Plainfield High School for 16 years. She holds a master’s degree in second science education from Eastern Connecticut State University and a bachelor’s degree in environmental marine biology from the University of Connecticut.

Carignan is in her first year as a science teacher at NFA.

“To be in the classroom with our students and also hold this position is something I’m very excitedabout,” Carignan said. "I hope my experience here provides opportunities for personal growth and pride for every gymnast.”
