Looking for a special someone to get cozy with this winter?
Well, if you’re in this city in Pennsylvania, your chances of finding that special someone may be higher than other areas of the country.
WalletHub conducted and published a study that first compared 182 U.S. cites across three key dimensions in order to find best and worst cities for singles: “Economics;” “Fun & Recreation;” and “Dating Opportunities.” Each dimension was then evaluated on relevant metrics—”Average Price for Two-Person Meal;” “Social Clubs per Capita;” “Share of Single Population;” etc.—to come to their final conclusions.
It was thus found that the following were the top five best cities to be singlin’ and minglin’ in: Portland, Ore. (number five); San Francisco, Calif. (number four); Denver, Co. (number three); Madison, Wis. (number two); Seattle, Wash. (number one).
Be disappointed not, Pennsylvanians, for even though a city in the Keystone failed to manage to break the top five sect, Pittsburgh still managed to crack the top 20 with its number 18 ranking.
If a city’s friendliness towards singles is a determining factor in where you move next, Vivian Zayas—Ph.D. and professor of undergraduate studies at Cornell University’s Department of Psychology—explains there’s a few things to keep in mind.
“It is good to know a bit of the demographics of the city,” she explains. “Although singles span the entire age range, they are more likely to be younger. So, it is good to do some research and ask: What percentage of the residents are single? Are they generally in my age range? Where do they work, and does the city seem conducive to promoting ways for singles to meet?
“A big predictor of interpersonal liking is proximity, so people should look into who they will be working with (because this may be a pool of potential partners).”
Philadelphia, on the other hand, landed in the number 89 overall spot, which is still obviously better than the bottom five worst cities to be single in: Fort Smith, Ark.; Hialeah, Fla.; Brownsville, Texas; Glendale, Calif.; and Warwick, R.I.
