Pittsburgh Pirates’ short stop Oneil Cruz continue to impress, this time in winter ball.
Playing for the Tigres Del Licey in the Dominican Republic, Cruz went 3-for-3 in only his second game with the team with an impressive home run thrown in.
Cruz knew it was gone right after he made contact with an effortless swing, spinning around once then trotting the bases.
Cruz also had two runs scored and he walked twice.
Translated from Spanish to English, the Licey site said of the home run, “Oneil Cruz disappeared the ball from the park.”
The home run broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning. The Tigers would go on to beat the Cibao Giants 8-4.
The Tigers improve their record to 23-11 on the season.
Cruz went 0-for-0 at DH in his first game with the Tigers.
Several other players in the Pirates organization are playing in winter ball as well this offseason.
Cruz batted .233 last season with 17 home runs, 54 RBI, 10 stolen bases with 77 hits in 87 games.
