Ghost spin-off will lead new Call Of Duty anthology series, says insider

Ghost spin-off will lead new Call Of Duty anthology series, says insider

According to an insider, Ghost's origin story will be part of an episodic single-player campaign DLC, releasing for Modern Warfare II.

Everyone loves Ghost. The iconic Call of Duty character has been everywhere since the release of Modern Warfare II - it’s hard to move online without seeing that side-eye meme or even a fan-cam edit (the guy has become very popular on TikTok amongst thirsty fans).

Regardless of if you enjoy him for his character, personality, or just think he’s hot, there’s no doubt that fans would love to see more of him, which is why one new insider report is so exciting. That’s right, you’ve read the headline - according to insider Ralph Valve (via WhatIfGaming), Infinity Ward is already working on a plan for a Ghost origin campaign, which will apparently flesh out the character further.

Check out Modern Warfare II’s take on All Ghillied Up below.

This same report claims that Modern Warfare II’s single-player DLC (which is apparently set for release in 2023) has been compared to The Dark Pictures Anthology series in the way it’ll work - apparently, a number of prominent Call of Duty characters and factions will be expanded upon “with an intimate, episodic look”. Apparently, “new blood” will be explored, too, so it’s not just Ghost who’ll supposedly be getting some special treatment.

Assuming these claims are true, it’s not surprising at all that Infinity Ward would choose to give Ghost some limelight. In fact, just last month, Modern Warfare II’s narrative director, Jeffrey Negus, and head writer Brian Bloom revealed that they were interested in pursuing his origin story.

“There are others who would like to do that too, and we think that would be really interesting,” Bloom told IGN. “And again, that’s kind of where this interview started, that there’s something about that character that’s iconic, but the mask and some of those more superficial elements, as we’ve attempted to build them out here in our current release, where did some of those things come from? And exploring that, and looking at that would be something I think the audience would love, and we would love to get into.”

We’ll just have to wait and see if it actually happens - if the insider’s claims are true, this sounds like a really interesting way of handling campaign DLC.
