Crash closes busy Lincoln intersection; driver cited on suspicion of DUI

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A crash shut down the busy Homestead Expressway and West Van Dorn Street interchange on Monday morning.

The Lincoln Police Department says only one vehicle was involved in the wreck, which occurred a little after 2:30 a.m.

The 19-year-old driver was on Highway 77 and attempted to exit on West Van Dorn when he crashed the vehicle into the bridge railing.

He was cited and released on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless driving, violating a learner’s permit and being a minor in possession.

Two passengers, ages 18 and 20, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Several emergency vehicles blocked off traffic in both directions for about an hour.

It happened just after law enforcement from all across Nebraska worked extra shifts over the holiday weekend to keep a close eye out for impaired drivers.
