Kentucky State Police to hold ‘Cram the Cruiser’ food drive

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – We’re in the thick of the holiday season, and Kentucky State Police are getting in the spirit and giving back to the community.

You too can get involved through and annual food drive called “Cram the Cruiser” on Friday, December 2. The goal is to fill the agency’s cruisers as much as possible with non-perishable food.

It’s a state-wide effort by all sixteen Kentucky State Police posts. Kentucky State Police will be at grocery and retail stores collecting non-perishable food items like canned vegetables, fruit, meat, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, canned soups, water, and powdered milk.

In 2019, KSP collected 236 tons of food for families all across Kentucky. The program started back in 2010 and has run every year except 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since its beginning, the agency says it has contributed more than 2 million pounds of food to families in need during the holidays.

According to KSP, items donated will go to food banks, shelters, churches, and other charitable groups.

A statement from police says the “Cram the Cruiser” drive is set for Dec. 2.

Troopers will be at grocery and retail stores accepting products like canned fruit and vegetables, canned meat, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, cake mixes, water and powdered milk.

Collected food is distributed to food banks, shelters, churches and other groups.
