Snow that fell by the foot across the Buffalo southtowns has melted away to barely cover the ground in spots and from Buffalo northward there is no hint of snow remaining on the ground.

In the southern tier and ski country, what looked like a spectacular opening of the 2022-23 ski season is also melting away as Holiday Valley has made the decision to suspend operations Monday through Thursday after opening Friday.

"Given the weather forecast for the upcoming week, we are going to close the slopes this Monday through Thursday and then plan to reopen on Friday (Dec. 2) morning," a statement from Holiday Valley reads. "We hope to be able to resume snowmaking later in the week and with any luck will see some more lake effect snow in the near future."

The lake effect snow storm that made national headlines for dropping upwards of six feet of snow on the southtowns, did not deliver those impressive accumulations to the southern tier.

Kissing Bridge in Colden has yet to open for the season, delaying their opening due to the weekend warm-up.
