SHENANDOAH, Pa. — Flames tore through rowhomes early Monday morning in Schuylkill County.
Crews were called to East Coal Street in Shenandoah around midnight.
"When we arrived, we were faced with heavy fire coming out of the second floor. Crews went to work right away. We requested a second alarm for additional manpower. And being that it's a rowhome, we wanted to get additional help so we don't lose a lot," said Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas.
No one was hurt. The residents of the home where the fire started were not home at the time. Nearly a dozen people are displaced.
Five homes bore the brunt of the damage, but not a single home in the row was spared.
"The entire row was exposed to either water, smoke, soot so this entire row of about 12 homes has been affected," said Justin Ferretti from Fast Pro Restoration. He made the hour and a half trip up from Pottstown to help homeowners here. This is the beginning of the company's busiest time of year.
"People are plugging in their space heaters, people are turning on their boilers for the first time this season, and they're malfunctioning sending soot and smoke through the home."
A state police fire marshal is looking for a cause here in Schuylkill County.
