The true poster girl of platinum, Lucy Boynton has long been the subject of iced-hued reference photos, but as of yesterday all that has changed.

The actress has left behind her signature shade in favourite of a new reddish hue, looking dramatically different after an unexpected strawberry-blonde hair transformation. She showcased the fresh colour at a special screening of The Pale Blue Eye at London's Ham Yard Hotel this week, the first sighting of her new auburn locks thus far.

The Bohemian Rhapsody star's new shade, curated by celebrity hairstylist Halley Brisker, is the latest A-list iteration of this year's most covetable copper hair colour. Opting for a softened take on the otherwise fiery shade, Boynton's new tone veers more naturally warm than a true tangerine – the sort of understated elegance we've come to expect from the actress.

Her hair was styled in a centre-part twisted bun with face-framing tendrils, enhanced by a unique skull hair pin. The look was polished off with a mod liner across the eyelid and subtle crystal embellishments below her lashes; the perfect accompaniment to her sheer tulle Shushu Tong dress.

The 28-year-old actress is far from the first to undergo a red transformation this year. Supermodels Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid both trialled a warmer hue in spring, though the pair have now returned to their natural signature shades. This copper craze was shortly followed by Sydney Sweeney, Sophie Turner and most recently Nicola Coughlan, whose fresh colour is also courtesy of Brisker, who all dabbled in rust-adjacent tones.

This isn't the first time that Boynton has experimented with her hair colour; she previously debuted a one-time dusty blue shade for the 2019 Met Gala. The actress is known for her playful approach to beauty, regularly walking the red carpet with experimental and unexpected make-up looks.

Whether her new strawberry shade will be a permanent feature is yet to be decided, however, one thing we do know is that we'll be admiring it thoroughly while it's here.
