The City of Indianola is hosting the first What Do You Love About Indianola? photo contest beginning this month, and continuing throughout the year. Indianola residents are asked to take a high-resolution photo of something they love in Indianola, submit it to the city by the end of the month, and a winner will be selected and awarded a $50 gift certificate to an Indianola business. Spirit of Pella to Work on First Downtown Mural Soon
The Spirit of Pella has announced its first downtown mural. The non-profit organization is partnering with The Brew Coffeehouse and an artist, according to Christi Vande Voort. She says the goal is to not only enhance the holiday season, but work on other decorative projects to enhance the Central Business District and beyond. Simpson Athletics Weekend Results
The Simpson College athletics department had a host of teams competing over the weekend. The Storm men’s wrestling squad dominated Buena Vista 39-9, picking up their second American Rivers Conference dual victory, and will have a chance to pick up their third as they face off against Central and Dubuque over the next two weeks.

Knoxville Girls Head To Fairfield, Wrestlers Travel To Martensdale For A Triangular
Two Knoxville teams will be in action tonight as the girls basketball squad will head to Fairfield and the wrestlers travel to Martensdale-St. Mary’s for their final dual of the season with the Blue Devils and Carlisle. The girls basketball squad is trying to gain more confidence in their final regular season game going up against a struggling Fairfield squad. The Panthers are coming off a 46-31 victory over Newton on Saturday where the Panthers played well defensively. The wrestlers will be in their final duals of the season after falling to West Burlington-Notre Dame in the class 2A regional duals last week. First bouts are set for 6:00. Holiday Season Visits Increasing, According to Spirit of Pella
A local non-profit dedicated to enhancing experiences in the City of Pella is excited to see growth in the number of visits during the holiday season. Jason Bandstra with the Spirit of Pella Committee says the organization helped enhance Christmas lights and decorations throughout the Central Business District in 2022, which featured a new lighted tunnel in Central Park immediately north of the Tulip Toren. He says overall, based on data collected from the Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance, the number of total visits to downtown businesses increased by approximately 16% from the 2021 season.

Pella’s Tauke Earns Academic All-State Basketball Honor
A Pella basketball senior was chosen as one of the best all around athletes and students in Iowa this week. The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association has selected Kylie Tauke to the 2023 Girls Academic All-State Team. Tauke was one of 20 students from the entire state chosen for her on the court performance and efforts in the classroom. Tauke entered this final week of the regular season averaging 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the #8 ranked in Class 4A Pella girls basketball team. Tauke was also a 2022 3A State Track and Field qualifier in the long jump and a second-team All-Little Hawkeye Conference selection as an outfielder for the Dutch softball team. The 2022 Academic All-State team was selected by an IBCA panel from more than 172 applicants. This team carries the following averages: An ACT composite of 29.4, scoring average of 12.5 points per game on the court, and a GPA of 4.16.

Pella, Indianola Square Off to Start LHC’s Final Week
Indianola pays a visit to Pella as the last week of Little Hawkeye Conference basketball action tips off tonight. The Indian boys have clinched a share of the league title, and will win it outright with a win in either of their last two games or one loss each by Norwalk and Newton. Indianola beat the Dutch 60-53 four weeks ago, and Pella coach Derek Schulte knows his team will have its hands full tonight.

Knoxville Sweeps Pella Christian In Bowling Meet
The Knoxville Bowling Squads swept Pella Christian on Saturday in the Panthers’ last regular season meet of the season. The girls won 2540-2080 while the boys defeated the Eagles 1936-1862. Leading the way for Knoxville on the boys side was Tristen Carter with a 401 series and Donovan Binns had a high game of 231. The Eagles were led by Evan DeJong with a round one score of 330, followed by Andrew DeVries at 318 and Andrew Van Kooten at 304. On the girls side, the Panthers were led by Brigette Renard shooting a 315 series and a high game of 165. The Eagles were led by Alexa Klaasen with a round one score of 410. She was followed by Dani Roose at 269 and Cathy Tang at 218. Both Knoxville and Pella Christian will see each other once again next weekend when the two converge on Statesmen Lanes in Oskaloosa for the conference meet.

Knoxville Football Program Holds Signing Day For Incoming Class
National Signing Day was this past Wednesday, and while most of the Knoxville High SChool Athletes that are going to the next level have already put pen to paper, there was a different kind of signing day at Knoxville High School this past week as the Knoxville Football Program welcomed their next incoming class of players with a singing day event. Head Coach Matt Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS Sports 28 total players signed a letter of intent to play football and commit to playing for the Panthers next fall. Dunkin highlighted the importance of positively representing themselves, the Panther Football Program, Knoxville Schools and the community.
