MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Tuesday gets off to a dry start, but scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will fire in the southwestern corner of the state by the late afternoon. Numerous clusters of rain and thunderstorms will then form and push through the area overnight and into very early Wednesday morning. Not everyone will have severe weather issues, but a few problems areas could develop - and in those areas, isolated tornadoes, damaging wind gusts and some hail could develop. These will be the exception, not the rule. For many of us, its just a rainy and windy night - but its important that you have multiple, reliable ways of getting weather warnings, just in case.

A low risk of severe weather exists from late Tuesday into Wednesday morning.(WSFA 12 News)

Embedded inside our chance for rain and rumble is a risk of some stronger storms; while the overall severe weather threat does not look that high, we can’t let out guard down. A much more substantial risk for severe weather will exist tomorrow and tomorrow night to our west across portions of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee...the overall risk level will decrease as the storms move into our state.

The main risks are strong to damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes, especially in the western and southwestern counties of Alabama. With that being said, our entire WSFA 12 News viewing area is under some kind of risk, so remaining weather aware is important no matter where you live.

Behind the cold front it will turn colder for the first few days of December. Look for highs to stay well below 60° on Thursday and get a bit warmer by Friday despite plentiful sunshine both days. Overnight lows will be much colder in the middle to upper 30s; some of the colder spots will see lower 30s in all likelihood.

The first weekend of December will be nice and likely dry with warmer temperatures. Highs will be back in the upper 60s and lower 70s with partly cloudy skies. There really isn’t much of a rain chance beyond the this week’s system... however, it is worth noting some long-range models suggest a small chance of showers this weekend, especially the farther north you go.

Nothing more than a 10% chance of rain is in the forecast for now, but it’s possible that could go up at least slightly. No matter what happens, it’s highly unlikely that the weekend features a lot of rain.
