A stolen vehicle crashed into a building in downtown Redding while fleeing from police Sunday night.
Redding Police Department said a 1999 Honda that had been reported stolen in Colusa County was spotted on Highway 273 near Wyndham Lane.
RPD said they attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, but the driver of the Honda fled Northbound.
In the interest of public safety police ended their pursuit with the vehicle once it entered downtown Redding.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 22-year-old Colton Smith of Orland, continued to drive hazardously, and ended up crashing in the area of Tehama Street and East Street.
RPD said that Officer Jaegel and K9 Duke arrived at the scene, and Duke was able to apprehend Smith.
Smith attempted to choke Duke according to RPD.
There were two female passengers with Smith, one identified as 21-year-old Mariah Wooten of Red Bluff, RPD said she resisted officer's arrest and was booked in the Shasta County Jail. The other female fled the scene and has not yet been identified.
After Smith was cleared from the hospital, he was booked in Shasta County Jail for felony evading, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle, and interfering with a police K9.
RPD said that Smith is on probation through Glenn County for vehicle theft and had outstanding warrants for the same offense.
