Keep your radio tuned to KIRO Newsradio this week. Winter-style weather will be playing havoc on driving conditions and outdoor activities.

It’s not unusual for the passes to get big dumps of snow this time of year.

But it is strange to start hearing about possible snow near sea level this early in the season.

As people return home on the roads and across the passes after the Thanksgiving holiday, wind, rain, sleet, and yes, possible snow could impact commutes around Puget Sound this week.

According to the National Weather Service, Seattle and Bellevue will see mainly rain overnight before 4 a.m. The low will be around 35-degrees which just goes to show, a small dip in temperatures could mean snow.

The chance of participation is around 80% overnight

There is a slight chance of snow in the metro areas Monday morning before 8 a.m.

It will be mostly cloudy Monday morning with clearing skies in the afternoon.

Tuesday, the NWS reports a chance of snow showers between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. with a high of 39-degrees.

As is normally the case, the closer you get to the mountains, the more likely you will be dealing with snowy conditions.

KIRO 7 TV meteorologist Frankie Katafias says a strong weather system is moving into the area overnight.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of the region.

Katafias says sea-level snow is possible this week.

We could be seeing a rain-snow mix at various times throughout the work week.

According to Weatherspark.com, the snowy period of the year in Seattle is historically only 5-6 weeks from mid-December to late January.

The month with the most snow in the metro area is January, with an average snowfall of 1.2 inches. The snowless period of the year lasts for 11 months, from January 20 to December 12.
