INDIANAPOLIS – The Marquette University women's volleyball team has earned an at-large berth to the 2022 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship and will host a regional pod for the second time and first since 2018 when it welcomes Ball State to the Al McGuire Center for a first round match on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Marquette will also host fifth-seeded Georgia Tech and Wright State on Thursday and the winner of each matchup in Friday's second round at 6 p.m. Central time. The Georgia Tech/Wright State match is slated for 4 p.m. CT on Thursday and MU's match will follow at roughly 7 p.m.

The Golden Eagles (27-3, 17-1 BIG EAST) are the BIG EAST Conference regular season co-champions and fell in five sets to then-No. 15 Creighton in the BIG EAST title match. The squad is led by ninth-year head coach Ryan Theis and All-BIG EAST Conference selections Yadhira Anchante, Carsen Murray, Aubrey Hamilton, Hattie Bray and Jenna Reitsma.

This year marks MU's 11th NCAA trip in the last 12 seasons. Marquette's lone absence in the NCAA bracket was in the spring of 2021 due to a reduced tournament field.

Marquette has made five trips to the second round of the NCAA tournament and advanced to the regional semifinals in 2018 after hosting first and second round matches at the Al McGuire Center. In total, MU is 6-10 all-time in NCAA tournament play since making its debut appearance in 2011 at the University of Illinois.

New for this year, the top 32 teams are seeded nationally in pods of four and placed within four regions. Per the established bracketing principles, the top seeds are provided the opportunity to host. Additionally, team pairings are determined within the pods (ones paired with eights, twos paired with sevens, threes paired with sixes and fours paired with fives) and assigned geographically within their pods, with the exception that teams from the same conference are not paired during the first- and second-rounds.

First- and second-round matches will be played December 1-3 at 16 campus sites. Teams winning both matches will continue to regional play December 8 & 10. Regionals for the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will be held at four non-predetermined campus sites, which will be announced on December 4. At each site, four teams will compete in single-elimination regional semifinal competition.

The regional winners will advance to the national semifinals and championship final hosted by Nebraska in conjunction with the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority (MECA), December 15-17 at CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The national semifinal matches will broadcast on ESPN, and the championship match will broadcast on ESPN2.

All preliminary site match times can be found on the championship bracket or online at www.ncaa.com/volleyball.
