A house fire in the Bay Point neighborhood of East Contra Costa County sent one resident to the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a two-alarm fire at 108 Gibson Ave. at 3:22 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but CON fire PIO Tracie Dutter said it started in an upstairs bedroom.

Two residents in the home tried to put out the fire, and one was sent to a nearby hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

“Our recommendation to people is that if there’s a fire in your house, get out and stay out, don’t go back in for any reason,” Dutter said.

The fire was put out quickly, but firefighters remained to investigate the scene to figure out the cause, the spokesman said.
