Tua Tagovailoa’s 2022 season has been a stark contrast to his 2021.
The Miami Dolphins quarterback has enjoyed a bevy of successes this year. Having Tyreek Hill to go along with Jaylen Waddle helps, but Tagovailoa certainly struggled at times in 2021.
He did his best to swat down that criticism. But it’s been hard to ignore. Even this season, some still weren’t on the bus. But with each game, Tua’s improvement has been noticeable.
This week, as Tua and the Dolphins play the Houston Texans, Tagovailoa spent time with the commentary team during production meetings. And according to sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, Tua was shockingly honest with himself.
Reporter Clay Ferraro tweeted, “On CBS broadcast, Adidi Kinkhabwala says Tuat old them multiple times last year he looked in the mirror and asked himself ‘do I suck?’ Because of how critical fans and coaches had been.”
It’s not often that you see a player be like this with themselves. But accountability goes a long way. It’s a shockingly brutal self-assessment from Tagovailoa. But whatever happened in the interim obviously has helped.
Tua has continued to improve as he hopes to lead the Dolphins to their first AFC East Division Title since 2008. As of writing, he has already thrown for one touchdown against the Texans Sunday.
