SPD: Fist fight gets out of hand; one man taken into custody while one recovers

SAMSON, Ala. (WDHN) — A man is behind bars after he is accused of stabbing another man when a fistfight got out of hand.

Police responded to a stabbing call on South Bay Street in Samson. When they arrived they found a male with a stab wound to the side of his body.

The victim sustained a serious injury but is expected to recover. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police received information that the suspect, Martin Pop Chub, was trying to get a ride out of the area.

The suspect’s telephone number was obtained and informants called the suspect to give him a ride out of town.

Then they rode with the informants to a back street, where Chub came out of a wooded area and was placed under arrest around 11 p.m. on Saturday night.

The knife was recovered in the pocket of Chub with blood on the blade, according to police.

Chub, who police say is in the country without documentation, was taken to Samson Police Department and read his rights by an interpreter. Police say he confessed to stabbing the victim because of a fistfight that got out of hand.

Chub has been charged with assault first-degree, but police say that charge could change due to the condition of the victim.

Police say immigration was contacted and there is no record of Chub entering the United States.
