PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Looking for organizations to donate to this Giving Tuesday? Why not consider the Caring People Alliance (CPA).

The nonprofit runs Boys and Girls Clubs at their locations in North, West and South Philadelphia. They offer after-school care and provide children with snacks and hot meals each day.

Last week, at their R.W. Brown Boys & Girls Club in North Philly, 10 preschoolers wore chef hats, aprons and gloves for a “kiddie cooking class,” where they learned how to make mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and rolled dough to create biscuits.

The class is part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program, which helps the organization provide food to nearly 4,000 children each year.

Corliss Davis, who does community outreach for CPA, said the organization gives out more than 140,000 meals each year across the city to make sure kids get the proper nutrition they need.

For some children, the only “healthy meal” they get each day is from the organization, said Rache Cross, senior director of CPA’s food program.

“...We are trying to fight poverty and hunger in Philadelphia and they come here to get this meal and we want to be able to continue to give it to them,” Cross said.

CPA hopes to raise $15,000 to support expansion of the program. To donate, visit https://www.caringpeoplealliance.org/donate-now.
