Alabama took care of business in the Iron Bowl, and now the Crimson Tide have to wait out conference championship week and hope the dominos fall in their favor for the College Football Playoffs.

With a special set of circumstances needing to happen for Alabama to potentially get in, head coach Nick Saban addressed the matter after the game, noting that he had been all-in on the Iron Bowl the past week and hasn’t had time to really think about it.

“Look, if I think it’ll help our team, I’ll certainly do that. I haven’t really thought about it to this point. My whole focus was win this game,” Saban said after defeating Auburn 49-27 Saturday in the Iron Bowl. “That’s the best opportunity we had for anything good to happen for us. To win the Iron Bowl is a significant accomplishment for our team and for our fans, which we certainly appreciate. And for this team to win 10 games.

“I haven’t really thought about any of those things beyond that. I’m really proud of our players because I don’t think they were thinking about anything except that, as well.”

After upsets in the past few weeks to Tennessee, Clemson and LSU, the Tide, who was ranked No. 7 coming into the weekend, the legitimacy for Alabama’s CFP hopes are alive and well heading into conference championship week.

‘Bama will likely need for TCU and USC to lose its respective conference title games, though Ohio State is still expected to be ranked ahead of the Crimson Tide after losing to Michigan in The Game Saturday, which could throw a wrench into these plans.

Still, the path for a two-loss Alabama team in the CFP is a real possibility despite the initial odds being stacked against them. The right set of circumstances have taken place thus far – a stark reminder to never count Nick Saban and Alabama out.
